Geometrid Moth Nemoria spp.

Common Name: Geometrid Moth

Order Name: Lepidoptera

Family Name: Geometridae

This flash photograph froze this Californian Geometrid moth in mid flight just as it was about to take a second flap. The Blackfoot Indians of North America believe moths to be the messenger of our dreams. Geometrid moths are characterized by symmetrical pattern with generally help in camouflage during the daylight hours as they rest on the bark of trees. This pale green moth had a single white line on the upper surfaces of it’s wing and was found in the daytime. Caterpillars of this group lack a few pair of prolegs and have resorted to the familiar “inchworm” mode of locomotion.
